Anticipatory | Students will look at a photo of a restaurant kitchen and try to name as many items in English as they can. They will write all responses in their notebook. | |
Lecture | The instructor will guide students in identifying and naming, in English, common kitchen equipment. Once students have learned about each piece of equipment, they will be asked to answer a series of questions about the function and purpose of each. | 15 min |
Activity | Students will work together to fill in the blank of a sentence regarding food preparation. Students will answer using the English name for the piece of equipment or tool. | 5 min |
Assessment | Students will engage in the 4 Corners activity. At each corner of the room, a large sheet of paper will be posted. Working in small groups, students will travel to each corner and write down at least one dish that is made using a grill, an oven, a deep fryer, and cold ingredients from the walk-in. Once completed, we will discuss what dishes students came up with as a class. Finally, students will complete an exit card before class ends. They should write about one thing they learned from the day’s lesson, one question they have, and one thing they had trouble understanding. These will be written on index cards and handed to the instructor before she leaves. | 20 min |
